EAST GREENWICH, R.I.Dec. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Verdi Productions is pleased to announce that their current project, Bleed For This, has officially wrapped. Bleed For This was a passion project for producers Chad and Michelle Verdi that was five years in the making. The film was executive produced by Martin Scorsese and written and Directed by Ben Younger (Boiler Room, Prime). Oscar winning producer Bruce Cohen (Silver Linings Playbook, American Beauty), Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street), Noah Kraft and Pamela Thur joined Chad and Michelle Verdi (Loosies, Silence) as producers. Joshua Sason Executive Produced.

Bleed For This tells the true-life story of five-time world champion boxer and Rhode Island native, Vinny Pazienza ("Vinny Paz"), who was injured and left with a broken neck in a near-fatal car accident at the peak of his career. After months of recovery and against doctors' orders, Paz returned to the gym under Mike Tyson's former trainer Kevin Rooney, and made a triumphant return to the ring just over a year later.

Verdi stated, "I want to thank all the people that were involved and helped make this film happen. Especially the thousands of extras that came out and supported us for the three fight scenes. Without them, this film was not possible." Verdi added, "All the major oversea territories for the film are already sold to a major distributor and I expect the domestic rights to sell in early 2015."

Verdi Productions' next project is Silence and is already in pre-production. It stars Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driverwith Martin Scorsese directing.  Silence is being filmed in Taiwan. The story takes place during the seventeenth century where two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity. Chad and Michelle Verdi who are executive producers on the film plan to be on set in early March 2015.

Martin Scorsese’s historical drama “Silence” has locked down funding, with Fabrica de Cine and SharpSword Films coming on to produce and provide financing.

“Silence” is scheduled to begin principal photography in Taiwan on Jan. 30, with Liam Neeson,Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver starring. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo, follows 17th century Portuguese Jesuits persecuted during their mission to Japan.

“I’ve wanted to make ‘Silence’ for almost two decades, and it is finally a reality,” Scorsese said. “It is heartening to have adventurous partners like Fabrica and SharpSword to work with on this picture.”

“Silence” is set for a 2016 release.

The companies will be managing the production under joint entity FM Films. Gaston Pavlovich will produce with executive producers Dale Brown, Matthew Malek and Tyler Zacharia. Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff will also produce with Randall Emmett, Irwin Winkler and Barbara DeFina. George Furla and Chad Verdi will exec produce.

Paramount is handling U.S. distribution. Foreign markets will be distributed by AI Films/IM Global.

Garfield will star as Father Rodrigues, a 17th century Portuguese Jesuit who travels to Japan with a fellow priest amid rumors that Rodrigues’ mentor has abandoned the Church. When they arrive, they find the local Christian population driven underground by religious persecution.

Neeson will play a priest who landed in Japan over a decade earlier and has gone missing.

Paramount released Scorsese’s three most recent films: “The Wolf of Wall Street,”  “Hugo” and “Shutter Island.” It has not set a release date for “Silence.”

Fabrica de Cine co-produced and co-financed the Tom Hanks drama “A Hologram for a King” and is set to produce Richard Gere’s “Oppenheimer Strategies.” SharpSword Films is backed by Dale Brown and participated in the financing of “The Ticket,” starring Dan Stevens, Malin Akerman and Oliver Platt.

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. --  Filmmakers Chad and Michelle Verdi of Verdi Productions in East Greenwich announced they have joined Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese's documentary project, "The New York Review of Books: A 50 Year Argument."

The film, due to premiere in New York on Sept. 27 and then air on HBO, tells the story of the vibrant intellectual life of the The New York Review of Books, founded during a newspaper strike in 1963.
